10&11D - Monterey


The City of Monterey lies at an elevation of 8 meters above sea level and is located along the Pacific coast in Central California. Monterey is of historical importance because it was the capital of Alta California, mutually Spain and Mexico, from 1777 to 1846.

A big population of sea otters that often swim and dive alongside tourists in kayaks and pontoon ships




























The Monterey Bay Aquarium has an annual attendance of almost 2M visitors. It holds thousands of plants and animals.
















A "mermaid´s pursue" holds baby skates. A female skate laid the leathery egg case after mating. Those prongs anchors the egg case in seaweed or sand. After almost a year, one edge of the case opens, and the miniature skates flap their wings and swim away.







There is a space where people could touch rays and other sea creatures



 A sea nettle hunts by trailing those long tentacles, covered with stinging cells


Anchovies are important in ocean´s alimentation. They feast on tiny plankton and in turn are food for tunas, seabirds...












Carmel-by-the-Sea, often called just Carmel, is a small and cozy city close to Monterey. The temperature was not so harm, around 20º C, at end of July, which became the beach a place where the persons go to play with kids and talking near made fires.
